Why do some people say jesus is the son of god that died for us but yet others say jesus is god, if?

jesus is god then explain how god called himself jesus and died for us so jesus told his disciples about god which is himself since Jesus is god. if god is god, then why do some people say that god is Jesus, god is not human but yet went down to earth to died for us
