Were arranged marriages (as opposed to love matches) the norm for Jews in Jesus' time?

If they were, can we conclude that Jesus said no to a lot of potential brides that his parents may have suggested? Are there examples of love matches or arranged marriages among the disciples of Jesus mentioned in the Bible? I know the song match-maker make me a match from Fiddler on the Roof suggests it was common among Orthodox Jews this century.
