Plus in the digitall age, when you take pictures, you can know right away if the exposure or picture is the way you want it, so you get instant gratification. If you invest in a DSLR you will get more out of getting your photography experience and eventually people may start paying you for photos. I've invested in a DSLR when they were more expensive with less pixels but they paid for them self as I got people wanting me to take pictures, so it's a well worth investment if you are aiming for photography.
